the knack of mixing media

from Vlisco's 'Delicate Shades' campaign, 2011
Since her salad days, Sabine Pieper has been passionate
about drawing but she moved to Berlin to study photography
where she worked as a photographer for several years
aiming at joining her professional knowledge with her
love for illustration: after her first daughter was born,
she embarked on the new career of fashion illustrator.

Having developed a unique dainty style in which she
combines media and techniques digitally blending her
handmade ink and watercolor drawings with photographic
images, Sabine works on a freelance basis for fashion
advertising clients and creates illustrations for books
and magazines. She made a name for herself with the
'Delicate Shades' campaign for Dutch textile company
Vlisco when she skillfully combined 3-D pictures of the
colorful fabrics with her penciled African women.

Although her work is strongly influenced by photographic
techniques, her illustrations always tell her soft vision
providing delicate interpretations of the designers' dresses,
they're always feminine and elegant and her unique
knack in mixing media is mostly visible in her personal
works where she's free to break away from
editorial and advertising demands.
