four cheers for the new year!

2012 has been quite a jarring year and we're still teetering on
the brink of political and financial cliffs, that's why I want to
perk up New Year's day with the cheerful image of four barn owl
chicks staring us down from a box in Israel's Beit Shean valley,
right at the border with Jordan, their heart-shaped faces and
pitch-black eyes giving the impression to disapprove the way
we humans lead the world. The tender image was unexpectedly
taken by Baz Nils Ratner who's actually known for his war pictures:
Baz started as a freelance photographer covering the age-old
Israeli-Palestinian conflict to become a Reuters contracted
photographer reporting on Gaza and Afghanistan wars.
This makes me think about the ongoing struggle for peace coming
out from places like Syria, Gaza, Egypt, Yemen as well as from
South Sudan, Nigeria, Congo, Mali and all the areas in turmoil:
may the new year bring peace, justice and glad tidings to our
troubled world. Wishing a Happy and Hopeful New Year!

  2. Dearest Elisabetta,
Indeed, a world in turmoil and uncertainty with several financial cliffs.
Let's hope that humanity will make it without too much suffering and losses. Peace and freedom are such rich words, yet so many don't know the feeling of it.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy 2013 in great health.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
