Amsterdam kimono allure

I went into raptures about Trend Tablet's ”kimono connection”
showing the awe-inspiring creations by Mamechiyo with
the beautiful canals of Amsterdam in the background.
Mamechiyo is the well-known Tokyo-based contemporary
designer who came to center around the Japanese traditional
loose robe her own work while 'Trend Tablet' is the social
media platform curated and designed by Lidewij Edelkoort,
the acclaimed trend forecaster, publisher and educator
I came to mention lately.

Mamechiyo's is renowned for her use of Western patterns
and retro motifs reinterpreted and meshed in her own Kawaii
aesthetic through which she redefined the traditional kimono.
Sourcing vintage fabrics, designing her own textiles and
mostly making an accurate coordination she creates
cutting-edge playful kimonos and came to publish
two sellout books boosting the kimono resurgence
and the resulting trend.

Staring at Mamechiyo's colorful kimonos in front of the
attractive waterways of the ”Venice of the North” in the
stunning images taken by photographer Ayumi Hase
with Mieko Ueda as Beauty director makes me think
of it as the nuts and bolts of cross-cultural gracefulness
and I'm amazed at how both Amsterdam and the
kimono will never look out of date.
