”We cannot achieve democracy and lasting peace in the
world unless women acquire the same opportunities as men
to influence developments at all levels of society” stated the
Nobel Peace Prize Committee awarding this year's winners:
three women who fought injustice, dictatorship
and sexual violence in Liberia and Yemen.
Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, her compatriot
peace activist Leymah Gbowee and Yemeni human rights
activist Tawakul Karman received the award this morning
in Oslo giving concrete meaning to the epigram
”women hold up half the sky”.
May you have a week of womanly virtues!
