a sideways look at styling

image credit: PPQ's AW11 catwalk show
Kindly bear with me for my hackneyed wordplay on
Dean Sidaway's name, yet the West Midlands-born,
London based designer, stylist, and fashion
consultant's amazing works knocked
me sideways.

from PPQ's AW11 collection
Central Saint Martin's grad and teacher, Dean
is a sort of King Midas for his ability to turn
everything he touches into covetable fashion
pieces for all seasons reshaping ordinary
everyday objects like wallpaper, keys or
lampshades into dazzling style accessories.

Dean Sidaway for PPQ's AW11 collection
He's a genuine talent managing his own
collections as well designing for high-end
fashion brands and works as a fashion
stylist with fellow photographer Alastair Strong
putting experience gained from collaborating
with Calvin Klein and Clements Ribeiro.

Dean's works come from an unconventional
viewpoint and they have always sensory
attributes, he loves the idea of using materials
that are not associated with fashion, materials
having tactility and texture such as ceramic,
untreated paper, wicker, household or found
objects often juxtaposing aging and worn
fabrics with detailed deluxe textiles.

Sidaway's collections redifine the whole
concept of fashion accessories while
giving the impression of delicate and
romanticized one-off artworks showing
how even the simplest thing can be
skillfully turned into something unique,
truly eccentric and extremely engrossing.

  1. Dearest Elisabetta,

Guess I would not feel to happy inside such a peeled-away outfit... Like some kid had caught it and started tearing it apart. But other than that, he is very daring!

    Lots of love,

  2. Peeled-away outfit, LOL!
Smart & true definition yet I dare
say I like the way he... dares.
