slow-mo elegance

The indoor sport of table tennis is fastly becoming
hip so it's little wonder that Matthew Donaldson made
a slow-mo film for Nowness, called ”Grand Slam” with
charming South Korean ping-pong champion,
actress and model Sooyeon Lee.

”It's a vehicle to show how extraordinary elegant she is,”
said the London-born filmmaker and photographer
talking about the internationally recognized celebrity
”this sport requires the body to jolt into action in an
aggressive manner that is mesmerizing, I wanted the
clothes to accentuate these movements.”

The director asked Katie Shillingford, fashion editor at
Dazed & Confused, to emphasize Sooyeon's technique
and she commissioned designer Geraldine Chevrolet
to realize bespoke fringed tights to be paired with
dresses and jumpsuits from Christopher Kane,
Mark Fast, Jil Sander and Versace.

You can have a look at the awe-inspiring slow-motion
picture here to fully appreciate Sooyeon's gesture which
is perfectly highlighted by the flowing movements of
the one-off pieces she wears during this high-fashion
endurance match. Sheer gracefulness!
