unfading inspiration

The Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic movement was founded by seven
young English artists and writers in 1848 as a reaction
against the slick sentimentality and the academic convention
of much Victorian art emulating the simplicity of the work
of Italian artists from before the time of Raphael.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's “Venus Verticordia”
They were among the first groups to address the aesthetic
objections of Victorian fashion rejecting, 50 years before
Coco Chanel, the restrictive corsets, bustles and hoops
which imprisoned women opting for unstructured, flowing
handmade clothing in natural colors and shapes.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's ”Beata Beatrix”
Artists such as Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and the
widely known Dante Gabriel Rossetti formed the Pre-Raphaelite
Brotherhood (or PRB as they modernly called themselves)
which became the most influential and controversial
movement in the history of English art.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's ”Veronica Veronese”
Their works, characterized by strong line and color, naturalistic
details as well as the use of lush fabrics and textured drapery,
inspired stylist Damian Foxe for his “Genius in Beauty” fashion
editorial in FT's  'How to spend it' magazine with actress
Bonnie Wright wearing stunning dresses made by Fendi and
Maria Grachvogel in the amazing pictures taken by Yuval Hen
on location at London's Victoria & Albert museum.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's “A vision of Fiammetta”
The V&A will soon play host to ”The Cult of Beauty” exhibition
about the Aesthetic Movement while last week in Rome
has been inaugurated the “Dante Gabriel Rossetti
Edward Burne-Jones and Italy's myth in Victorian England”
show at the GNAM (Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna).

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's ”Lady Lilith”
Two shimmering public displays putting together fashion
and art while highlighting the unbounded influence
of the artistic movement which reformed both
the art and fashion worlds.
