Here's the last theme from Pitti Filati: Pitti Immagine 5_ NO E-MAIL, write me a letter Retaking possession of handwriting. Rejecting the digital world for a sincere method reviving the space for writing and drawing yet refusing to hide ourselves behind impersonal characters. A handwritten letter is not a mere message, it's a little world with a scent of hope and expectations to convey or receive. The clothes are pure, enhanced with easy origami and simple envelope folds creating even geometrics. Words become yarns, the yarn a dress, The wardrobe as the chronicle of our lives. Set down in black & white
3_NO SUPERMARKET please, I'll grow some greens. Retaking possession of the earth. We will all grow vegetables and herbs on our roofs or in our window boxes reducing waste. Sowing, cultivating, makings things grow and ripen, then harvesting. Making vegetable seeds sprout as if they were ideas. We will dress up for the garden, in natural (what else?) yet sturdy fibers for all our outdoor outfits. Tech-ecological effects provided by natural waxes and water-based coatings will be applied to simple, functional shapes with lots of pockets. A fresh and optimistic ”going for the green” look with basil, rosemary and pepper patterns.
4_ NO WASHING MACHINE, I'll do it by hand. Retaking possession of our balance with water doing... laundry. We will rediscover how fibers react to water and the air that dries them establishing a mystical tactile sensations that gives peace. Things move and change, the fabrics absorb and release water under the clean energy of our hands. Some sort of water therapy, a daily ritual to offset frenzy habits. Clothes are unstructured and lightweight, material shapes itself to the body, like clothes you put on wet and then dry on it, taking shape and becoming crisp like sheets drying under the mediterranean sun.
Back in Florence, this time for Pitti Immagine Filati exhibition,
the 66th edition of the yarns renowned venue.
Let me introduce you to some of the main themes on display:
1_ NO CAR, let's go for a walk
Retaking possession of the space around us.
Get out of the car and listen to the street: faces, voices, rhythms.
Sort of a fertile chaos of motion and dialogue.
A chaos made by mixed cultures and experiences.
Cities will be car-free for walking leading people to meetings
and dialogue between responsible citizens going around on foot,
by bike or public transport.
The wardrobe will be easy and relaxed, real and sustainable.
Mismatching will be the right thing to do.
2_ No restaurant, bake some bread instead. Eating is essential for creativity but in the right way: fancy reastaurants and trendy food places will step aside for our friends' kitchens where everybody brings something. Cozy kitchens will give a simple, relaxed aesthetic with the fragrance of bread, the simple design of tablecloths and the most natural colors. Raw linen printed smocks almost totally without cuts, overlapping like puff pastry held in place by knots.
Come back tomorrow, if you like, for the other themes. Cheers.
